If you want to sample the local lifestyle on holiday, this is the best way to do it. You can live like the locals, being an honorary Sicilian for your time in the sun. Things as simple as shopping in a supermarket can make life back home feel a world away.

Rustling up a meal to share with delicious regional ingredients is all part of the villa experience, and is much more personal than a hotel buffet. It can be as easy as picking up crusty ciabatta and succulent salamis and olives, and eating them on the terrace with a glass of local wine made from grapes grown on the slopes of Mount Etna, there right in front of you! Or you can be as adventurous as you want, trying out a recipe from the area (e.g. pasta "alla norma", spaghetti "alle vongole"), packed with fresh produce from a nearby market. The fishmongers in Giardini-Naxos are a particular attraction, with fresh lobster, clams and all sorts of seafood plucked straight out of the sea to suit every palate. Why not try fresh king prawns brushed with olive oil and crushed garlic on the barbecue?

There's nothing better than dining al fresco at Villa Etna Mare, whether it's a barbecue in the sunshine or dinner under the stars, with the sea shimmering under the moon light and Mount Etna's enormous silhouette looming on the horizon.
